National Honor Society
NHS
The Hardin-Jefferson chapter of The National Honor Society is an organization that upholds the national standards of character, leadership, scholarship, and service. It recognizes and encourages academic achievement while also developing well-rounded service-oriented citizens. Invitations to this organization are sent out to Juniors in the fall. A five-member Faculty Council reviews the applications. Those that uphold the standard in all four areas mentioned above are inducted in the November. HJ's NHS has many projects throughout the year. The Angel Tree services underprivileged children at Christmas. The Thanksgiving Food Drive collects food or the local food pantry. The students collect money in October for cancer awareness as well as participate in the Gift of Life 5k. The members are often seen working the concession stands and volunteering all around the community.
